Super Sweets (sh2)
Supersweet, Xtra Sweet, or shrunken varieties (designated sh²) have a 'shrunken' gene that greatly enhances sweetness and produces kernels that are crisp and juicy. Holding qualities are excellent, up to 10 days longer than normal hybrids. Cross pollination between supersweets and other corns (uncluding field corn) will result in a starchy, undesirable kernel in both. We recommend supersweets be planted at least 25 feet from other corns in the garden and 200 feet from varieties in acreage plantings. All sweet corn requires warm soil temperatures of at least 55°F or more for good germination and 65°F for supersweets. Unless noted, our sweet corn is treated with a fungicide to improve germination in cold, wet soils.
